The Peruvian Apple Cactus thrives in full sun and develops its strongest growth when exposed to abundant direct light. It requires low amounts of water, with deep watering only after the soil has dried completely during the growing season and minimal watering during winter dormancy. Its growing season extends from spring through fall, during which it can grow remarkably quickly. Under ideal conditions, it has a fast growth rate, often adding 1–3 feet (30–90 cm) per year. Despite its common name, it is native to several regions of South America, including Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, and neighboring countries.
