The Blue Candle Cactus prefers full sun, which enhances its attractive blue-gray coloration and vigorous growth. It requires low watering, allowing the soil to dry completely between waterings during the growing season while remaining mostly dry in winter. Its primary growing season is spring through fall. It is considered a moderate to fast-growing cactus, commonly producing 12–24 inches (30–60 cm) of new growth each year under ideal conditions. This species is native to central and northern Mexico.
